On default settings, you cannot instal Windows XP on Compaq C733TU since this laptop can only accomodate Windows Vista. The reason behind this is actually because Windows XP needs to load driver for the SATA upon installation. The driver supposed to be loaded from floppy disk and the laptop doesn’t have floppy disk.

So to make Windows XP can be installed on Compaq C733TU, you have to do these steps:

1. First alternative is by preparing usb floppy disk drive. This will enable you to install windows xp to your Compaq C733TU since you could load the Sata’s driver upon installation.
2. Second alternative is by combining SATA’s driver into WIndows XP installer. You could use a program called NLITE. Try to search using search engine. Open NLITE, then insert Windows XP’s CD into the cd rom drive. After opened, find the include driver section and enter the SATA’s driver.
3. When the driver is installed, your windows installation should be successfull. When your WIndows XP runs for the first time, there are many devices that haven’t yet recognized, hence you should install the drivers:

• For the wireless LAN, you could use driver for acer aspire 4520
• For display driver, you could download it from http://downloadmirror.intel.com/14388/a08/win2k_xp14311.exe
• Touchpad’s driver ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35444.exe
• LAN CARD is automatically detected, you don’t have to install the driver/
• Before installing sound card’s driver, you have to install “Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture Driver” first from ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe
• The sound card’s driver can be downloaded from http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36090.exe. When you install the driver, an error will emerges, so enter the Device Manager, then right click on “Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus” , and click update “Install from a list or specific location” Choose “Sound, video and game controller”.

   #pppoeconf

2. Follow the steps, enter your username and password.
3. Enter your ISP’s DNS nameserver on /etc/resolv.conf
4. To dial the connection use

   # pon dsl-provider

5. To close the connection use

   # poff 

Yawcam is a software that can make your webcam to be a motion detector device. These are system requirements for using Yawcam:

• A Computer using Windows XP or Vista operating system.
• Webcam plus driver.
• Java Runtime Environment 6 + (Yawcam was developed using Java)

How to install Yawcam on your system:

1. Download Yawcam from Yawcam’s website.

One of yawcam’s facilities is a motion detection. if the webcam detects some motion, then it will automatically record the motion The settings to make Yawcam can detect motion are:

1. Click Window > Motion Detection (a new window should appear).
2. A blue line appears when you move something in front of the webacm.
3. Click Actions tab and uncheck the Play Sound checkbox
4. Choose Settings to save file and activate the Image array.
5. Click the Enable button to start the monitoring.

1. First, install ‘bluez-gnome’ you could install it via Synaptic

   System > Administration > Synaptic.
   

2. Install the gnome-ppp.
3. Plug your bluetooth, wait until the Bluetooth icon appears on the Tray.
4. Activate your cellphone’s bluetooth then do pairing first.

Check whether the bluetooth already recognized or not by clicking

Edit the rfcomm.conf to make it fits the scanning result.

sudo gedit /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf

Edit the file so it looks like this

rfcomm0 {bind yes;device 00:1A:75:B3:04:C5;channel 2;comment ?Bluetooth Modem?;}

Do binding first, by executing:

sudo rfcomm bind 0 00:1A:75:B3:04:C5 2

Check binding’s result:

rfcomm

Edit the wvdial.conf

sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

Edit it to make it match the description of your ISP

Phone = dial_number

Username = your_username

Right now, CDMA internet is cheaper. It offers more flexibility and mobility then dedicated wired or wi-fi internet connection. By using special modem or mobile phone modem (eg: Nokia 2112, Nokia 2116, Nokia 6115 etc) you could easily connect to the internet while on the go.

In ubuntu, you could install kppp modem dialer and ppp as the front end for KDE. To install, use:

aptitude install kpp 

Plug the CA-53’s USB plug to USB port on your computer. and also plug the other side to your nokia

From the above texts, you knew that the location of usb modem was at ttyACM0, Now open kppp, then open configure > tab modem > new
On devicetab, enter your modem (eg: Nokia), enter the location of the modem on Modem device combo box (eg: /dev/ttyACM0). Click OK.

Go to the modem tab then query modem to know whether the modem is already performs or not.

Now go to modem > modem command (above the modem query) then enter text

 at+crm=1;+cso=33 

on initialization string 2 then hit the OK button.

Go to accounts > new > manual setup. Make new user, enter connection name and phone number.
Then enter login id and username. Press Connect to dial the modem so you can connect to the Internet.

Sometimes you also need to close LAN connection during browsing. Execute

sudo ifconfig eth0 down 

to close ethernet connection.
