How to Install Drupal 6 on your webserver
Drupal is 2nd most famous CMS after Joomla. It has many features such as multi user, blogs, themes and can be extended using plugins. It’s already used by many big portals, such as what the drupal.org claims:
Today, Drupal powers sites including the homepages of Warner Brothers Records, The New York Observer, Fast Company, Popular Science, and Amnesty International and project sites by SonyBMG, Forbes, Harvard University, and more. Drupal can be used to create personal weblogs (Tim Berners-Lee), deliver podcasts (TWIT.tv), connect online communities (SpreadFireFox.com), form artist collectives (Terminus 1525) or inform the masses (The Onion).
This is steps you can do to install Drupal on your webserver:
- Download Drupal, you could download the installer from Drupal 6’s download site.
- Then click the Install Drupal in English Language link.just like picture below
- Next, you have to make a database as a place to store the data needed by Drupal CMS. If your server uses PHPMyAdmin, you can utilize it. If your server uses CPanel, it will become easier (but i am not showing the CPanel here since i take this picture on my localhost).
- Enter the database name you have created on step 3, and also your username and password to access the database.
- In configure site page, enter the information you want to give for your site. The information should be informative and describes your site. You can also insert administrator username and password , clean URL (search friendly URL), and time zone.
- Now the drupal is already installed, click the existing site link to see your newly created site.
- The already installed site will have a home page’s look like this picture:
- Click the Logout link and there will be a username and password textbox you can use to login again as an administrator.
From my experiences with Drupal 5, this version of Drupal is easier on installation phase. It’s very automattic *ups, not wordpress haha*….
