How to download email from your Gmail Account using Thunderbird
Gmail is the largest and most robust email provider that provide POP protocol therefore let you download your email content easier and faster because you don’t have to open webmail first to see your email content. There are many email client softwares that can be utilized to download email from your gmail account, but there is no email client software as easy as Thunderbird on setup when dealing with Gmail.

PS : Use Thunderbird 2.x > to practice this tutorial since thinderbird 1.x didn’t have Gmail wizard yet, hence you should set the gmail properties manually (and that’s not as easy as this tutorial of course).

…Yes, but how do I extract the email off of gmail’s servers and save it to my hard drive in a folder that I wish to save it to?

If you use Linux, just do these steps:
1. click Edit > Account Settings.
2. Click your email’s account name.
3. See the Local Directory’s location on your local hard disk.
4. Click the browse button on the right of that box.
5. A new window will open, right click on the icon of the folder then choose Explore menu.
6. Copy all files in it.
7. Paste them into a new folder you like.
On the new Thunderbird, do same steps until step 4th. And then follow by specifying the new folder location (the location of pasted files).

If you use Windows, just change the Edit > Account Settings into Tools > Account Settings
